"Rule of reason"is an important political idea and proposition of Zhu Xi.In the world of Zhu Xi's rule of reason,as the"reason(Li)"of governing the country,it naturally has the characteristics of transcendentality,universality,permanence and pre-binding,and can provide norms and guidance for the way of governing the country;"to extinguish desire through rational reasoning"constitutes the moral foundation and value orientation of"rule of reason"("rule by reason").Its basic point is mainly the moral restraint norms and political norms set up for the subject of"rule of reason"---the"superior people"including the monarch and scholars,rather than the general public.This is the"first button"for those engaged in politics to perform their official duties honestly,and it can provide historical and cultural support for the construction of socialist political civilization in contemporary China.
