Global Research Progress and Hotspot Evolution of Ecosystem Service Valuation

生态系统服务价值评估为科学管理生态系统提供决策依据,近年来已成为可持续发展领域的热点议题。基于Web of Science(WoS)核心合集数据库,运用Bibliometrix文献计量软件总结1997—2021年国际生态系统服务价值评估研究领域的发展概况与主题演变趋势,并对近5年(2017-2021年)的热点主题进行分析。结果表明:(1)国际生态系统服务价值评估研究数量显著增加,可分为萌芽期、兴起期、快速发展期和成熟发展期四个阶段,并且在近5年呈现迅猛发展的研究态势。(2)发达国家是国际生态系统服务价值评估研究的研究主力,而中国是此研究领域中唯一发挥着重要作用的发展中国家。(3)国际研究主题演变发展多元复杂,但近年来趋于稳定,侧重于从理论研究向实践应用转化。(4)国际研究的热点主题包括生态系统文化服务价值评估、多元价值识别与评估、生态系统服务框架在城市生态管理决策中的应用及气候变化背景下可持续发展目标响应。基于此,提出未来国内生态系统服务价值评估研究应重视多学科结合的综合评估方法研究,并推动生态系统服务价值评估研究辅助生态规划管理决策实践。

Ecosystem service valuation provides a basis for decision-making in the scientific management of ecosystems and has become a hot topic of sustainable development in recent years.Since 1997,the theory and practice of ecosystem service valuation have developed rapidly,and a large amount of literature have been published in the international academic community,especially in the last five years(2017-2021).Facing numerous studies on ecosystem service valuation over the past 25 years and its rapid developmen in recent times,some limitations in time span and analysis objects have become apparent.The current literature lacks a review of the development evolution of ecosystem service valuation over a long period.The leading research hotspots in recent years also have yet to be summarized comprehensively.Therefore,a bibliometric analysis and scientific knowledge mapping of the ecosystem service valuation literature from 1997-2021 were carried out using the Web of Science core collection database and the Bibliometrix R package.On this basis,the status of the literature and the evolution of topics within ecosystem service valuation over the past 25 years were summarized and popular subjects in the past five years were investigated.Segmented linear regression analysis and classification statistics of global literature concerning ecosystem service valuation from 1997-2021 were conducted to determine development stages,major countries of output,and major disciplines in the study period.Moreover,research topics and development trends were revealed through high-frequency keyword clustering analysis.Additionally,relationships between high-frequency keywords were extracted by combining statistical analysis and multiple correspondence analyses to summarize hot topics in the recent five years.The results show that:(1)According to the number of articles,the ecosystem service valuation literature can be divided into four research development stages:the budding period(1997-2004),the emergence period(2005-2010),the rapid development period(2011-2016),and the mature development period(2017-2021).Among them,the mature development period is the most rapid research development stage.(2)The European Union,the United Kingdom,and the United States are the main sources of research on ecosystem service valuation,while China is the only developing country which plays a significant role in the field.(3)International topics within ecosystem service valuation present a diversified development trend,but the evolution process has become stabilized since the rapid development period,focusing on practical application.(4)The most popular topics of ecosystem service valuation in the past five years include recognition and evaluation of multiple values,ecosystem cultural service valuation,application of ecosystem service framework in urban ecological management decision-making,and response to sustainable development goals in the context of climate change.In general,the research on ecosystem service valuation is progressing rapidly.Ecosystem service valuation has become the basis and prerequisite for national and even urban natural resource asset management,ecological compensation,and ecological planning and management practices.Therefore,Chinese research on ecosystem service valuation should emphasize multidisciplinary and comprehensive evaluation methods,and should enhance the inclusiveness of research horizons in the future.Additionally,it is suggested that the promotion of ecosystem service valuation research be accelerated to assist ecological planning and management decisionmaking practices,thus enabling the sustainable development of composite ecological relations among society,the economy,and nature.
