The Old Man and the Sea is a representative work of American writer Ernest Hemingway.The novel tells the value of life and the indestructible will of human beings,and reflects the lofty values of human beings through the portrayal of the image of Santiago,the hero.The simple plot of the novel reveals the profound truth:one is not born to be defeated,one should have the courage to face setbacks and challenges.This paper analyzes from three aspects:image beauty,philosophical beauty and aesthetic significance,aiming to show the modern significance of the novel through the strong,optimistic and indomitable spirit of the old man,Santiago so as to enlighten and guide people to face difficulties and hardships,actively cope with various challenges,and constantly obtain opportunities for survival and development.
