农科英语论文中情态动词的人际功能分析

情态动词是实现人际功能的重要手段。文章基于华中农业大学农科英语论文语料库,从定量和定性两个方面研究英语母语者农科英语论文中情态动词的使用特征。定量研究的结果显示,从类型来看,农科英语论文中概率类情态动词的使用频率最高,义务类情态动词次之,意愿类情态动词最低;从量值来看,低值情态动词的使用频率最高,中值情态动词次之,高值情态动词最低。定性研究的分析表明,情态动词构建了和谐的作者——读者关系。对作者而言,情态动词增强了命题的客观性,体现出作者不同程度的情态责任;对读者而言,情态动词起到缓和语气的作用,留下了一定的商讨空间。

Modal verbs are important means to achieve interpersonal function.Based on HZAU CQPweb,this paper investigates the characteristics of native English writers'use of modal verbs in agricultural English papers from both quantitative and qualitative aspects.Results show that,in terms of type,probability is used most frequently,followed by obligation,and inclination is used least;in terms of value,low value is used most frequently,followed by medium value,and high value is used least.Moreover,modal verbs build a harmonious author-reader relationship.For the author,they enhance the objectivity of the proposition and reflect different degrees of the author's modal responsibility;for the reader,they serve to moderate the tone and leave some room for negotiation.
