On Literary Functions of Ornamental Objects in Notes and Commentson The Golden Lotus with “Fan” As An Instance

“扇”是中国古代小说中常见的器具,在《金瓶梅词话》中更是出现频率较高的配饰之一,种类多样、用途广泛且内涵丰富,不仅展现了明代中后期的服饰文化与社会风尚,同时也在小说中承担一定的文学功能,作用于人物塑造、情节组织、场景呈现等多个方面,成为小说艺术构造的重要组成部分。

The“fan”was a usual utensil in ancient China.And it is the ornament that has appeared most frequently in Notes and Comments on The Golden Lotus.It has many types,functions and rich connotation.It has not only manifested ornamental culture and social fashion in late Ming Dynasty,but borne certain literary functions,and acted on figure shaping,plot organization and scene presentation.Accordingly,it has become an important part of the novel’s artistic fabrication.
