Night-time Economic Development Empowers Residents to Upgrade Consumption

发展夜间经济不仅可以通过刺激居民夜间消费来带动“国内大循环”,还可以通过促进产业结构升级和居民消费倾向提升来推动消费结构升级,从而成为打通“循环不畅”的重要举措。文章利用中国省域夜间灯光强度数据和中国家庭追踪调查(CFPS)的匹配数据,实证探讨了夜间经济发展赋能居民消费升级的影响效应与作用机制。研究发现,夜间经济发展不仅显著促进了居民消费水平的提升,更为居民消费结构升级提供动能支持,在经过稳健性检验及考虑内生性问题后结论依然成立;机制检验表明,产业结构升级和居民消费倾向提升是夜间经济发展赋能居民消费升级的重要传导机制,通过促进产业结构高级化、合理化以及提升居民消费倾向可加快推进居民消费升级,且居民收入显著增强了夜间经济对居民消费升级的促进作用;进一步分析发现,夜间经济发展对城乡居民消费升级的影响存在显著异质性,对收入高且有足够工作外时间的居民的作用效果更为明显。

The development of the night-time economy can not only stimulate residents'night-time consumption to drive the"domestic cycle",but also promote the upgrading of the consumption structure through changes in the industrial structure and residents'consumption tendency,thus becoming an important measure to break through the"impeded cycle".Using China's provincial night-time light intensity data and matching data from the China Family Panel Studies(CFPS),this paper empirically explores the impact and mechanism of night-time economic development empowering residents'consumption upgrades.The research found that the development of night-time economy not only significantly promoted the improvement of residents'consumption level,but also provided kinetic support for the upgrading of residents'consumption structure.After the robustness test and the consideration of endogenous problems,the conclusion still holds.Tendency is an important transmission mechanism for night-time economic development to empower residents'consumption upgrades.By promoting the upgrading and rationalization of industrial structure and improving residents'consumption propensity,residents'consumption upgrades can be accelerated,and residents'income has significantly enhanced the role of night-time economy in promoting residents'consumption upgrades.Further analysis found that there is significant heterogeneity in the effect of night-time economic development on the consumption upgrade of urban and rural residents,and the empowerment effect on residents with high income and enough time outside of work is more obvious.
