庄延龄对《汉书·匈奴传》的翻译研究

A Study of The Turko-Scythian Tribes Translated by Edward Harper Parker

汉学家庄延龄在19世纪英文汉学期刊《中国评论》上发表了多篇中国历史典籍翻译,《汉书·匈奴传》是其中之一。庄延龄翻译中国历史典籍是出于个人兴趣和从事相关研究的需要,主要采用忠实直译的翻译策略,也考虑了英汉史书的叙事差异,还运用了大量的注释,方便读者理解接受。但庄延龄的《汉书·匈奴传》英译还存有失误或不足之处。

English sinologist Edward Harper Parker translated many articles from Chinese historical books and records,including The Turko-Scythian Tribes,and published them in The China Review,the important sinological journal in the 19th century.The motive of his translation was his own interest in Chinese history and the need to pursue historical research.Parker mainly adopted the strategy of literal translation,and also considered the differences between Chinese and English history books.In addition,a large number of notes were provided so that the translation could be understood and accepted by the English readers.However,there are some mistakes and deficiencies in the translation.
