As John Fowles'debut work,The Collector achieved enormous success upon its publication in 1963 and established Fowles's reputation as a key writer since wWII.Based upon Schizoid--a psychological concept,this paper aims to analyze Clegg's Schizotypal Personality Diseases in an onionpeeling way so as to delve out the deep causes of such aberrant behaviors as displayed on Clegg.The article mainly argues that by inventing Clegg-a character with Schizotypal Personality,John Fowles expresses his strong indignation at and sharp criticism of British society of the 1950s when it is severely entwined in the social trouble of class distinctions.
