Theoretical Origin and Connotation of the Essence “Nanzibao”(男子胞,Essence Chamber)

在梳理“男子胞”理论源流的基础上,综合古今学者之认识,遵循藏象学说形成的基本规律,论证并丰富了男子胞的理论内涵:解剖含义上男子胞对应于前列腺,功能意义上男子胞是“肾主生殖”的功能子集,并参与了“肾主水”的过程;男子胞的生理功能受任、督、冲三脉的调控。探索并解析“男子胞”的内涵对泌尿男科疾病的诊疗具有重要指导意义。

Based on the theoretical origin summary of “Nanzibao”(男子胞,essence chamber) and the understanding of ancient and modern scholars,and guided by the basic rules of visceral manifestation theory in traditional Chinese medicine(TCM),we demonstrate and enrich the theoretical connotation of essential chamber from multiple perspectives.We hold that the essence chamber corresponds to the prostate in the anatomical sense,and is the execution unit of “kidney governs reproduction” in the functional sense,which participates in part of the process of “kidney governs water”.The physiological functions of the essential chamber are regulated by the Ren (任),Du (督),and Chong (冲) channels.Exploring and analyzing the connotation of “essential channel” can provide guidance for the diagnosis and treatment of urological andrological diseases.
