On the Family Elderly Care Customs in Ancient Egypt under the Dual Influence of Law and Religion

养老不只是现代社会面临的重大问题,在古代社会同样是每个家庭应承担的重任。古埃及社会崇尚公平正义,在法律与宗教双重影响下孝道思想得以宣扬与传承。古埃及养老主要采取以家庭赡养为主的方式,通过子女赡养或者收养他人的方式来解决养老问题。对于离婚女性的赡养问题,古埃及婚约也会要求丈夫做出相应的经济补偿。

The elder-care problem is not only an important issue in modern society,but also significant in ancient times.The ancient Egyptians,who advocated fairness and justice,paid great attention to the cultivation of family values as well as polytheism.Thus,the thought of filial piety was reflected in many teaching texts,which constituted a basic factor to maintain social harmony.It is certain that children support and adoptees'provision are the common ways of endowment in ancient Egyptian family;the marriage contracts provided women with strong guarantees to have economic compensations from their husbands.
