《七角楼》创作于1851年,是纳撒尼尔·霍桑最长的一部罗曼司,也是作家本人最喜爱的一部作品,在英美文学批评界享有盛誉。但从目前国内外叙事学层面的研究成果来看,和《红字》相比相差甚远。细读《七角楼》发现,通过采用叙述插话、直接引语、多元人称叙述等叙事策略,以及通过关键词语的重复、关键段落的重复和特定修辞意象的重复等修辞策略,作品展现出精湛的艺术技巧和对人性、人生的独特思考,形成了鲜明的艺术风格;同时,对塑造人物形象、增强叙事效果、深化作品主题、激发阅读兴趣等起到了关键的作用。

The House of the Seven Gables was written in 1851 by Nathaniel Hawthorne.It is his longest novel and also his personal favorite,earning him great acclaim in the field of English and American literary criticism.However,compared to The Scarlet Letter,the current research findings in the field of narrative studies,both domestically and internationally,are far from satisfactory.Upon close reading of The House of the Seven Gables,it is evident that the work exhibits exquisite artistic skills and unique contemplation of human nature and life through narrative strategies such as narrative interjections,direct discourse,and multiple points of view.It employs rhetorical devices such as repetition of key words,repetition of key passages,and repetition of specific figurative imagery,thereby establishing a distinct artistic style.Moreover,these techniques play a crucial role in character development,enhancing narrative effects,deepening the themes of the work,and stimulating readers' interest.
