古诗英译的规定性与描写性赏析——以唐寅《我爱秋香》为例

Appreciation of Prescriptive and Descriptive English Translation of an Ancient Poem by Tang Yin:I Love Autumn Fragrant

在梳理规定性翻译规范研究与描写性翻译规范研究的发展、特点及二者之间互补关系的基础上,文章尝试分析唐寅《我爱秋香》诗作的英译,旨在说明译者在翻译的理解和表达阶段,是如何对翻译规范的规定性和描写性进行理性思考与辩证取舍的。由此创造性生成的译文体现了原文的“充分性”和译文的“可接受性”,能够有效引领读者赏析诗行方寸之间展现出的音乐美、画面美、意境美,使读者体会其中的意蕴、诗韵、情韵和神韵,感受诗人隐逸山水、参禅悟道、心归佛学、感悟人生、心境澄明之超脱。

Based on reviewing the development of the studies of prescriptive vs.descriptive translation norms with their characteristics and their complementary relationship,the present paper tries to analyze the English translation of I Love Autumn Fragrant,an ancient poem by Tang Yin,aiming to illustrate how the translator,in his understanding the original and his translating,has conducted rational thinking and dialectical choices between prescriptive translation and descriptive translation.The version thus creatively produced has reflected the“adequacy”of the original and the“acceptability”of the translated text.In this way,it can make the readers appreciate the succinct poem’s beauty in its rhythmical sound,poetic picture and artistic conception,understand its rhyme,implication,aesthetic taste and artistic charm and experience the poet’s Buddhist view of life,his clarity of mind,his love for nature and his hermitic detachment from the secular world.
