金介甫《边城》英译副文本对乡土中国的异域再现

Exotic Representation of Rural China in Jeffrey Kinkley’s English-translated Paratext of Border Town

作为乡土文学的代表作,《边城》讲述乡土中国的边缘生活与边缘文化。学界对《边城》英译本的研究虽然呈现出多维取向,但对其乡土特色的翻译研究却鲜有人关注。作为连接译作与读者的纽带,副文本在提供背景知识、进行文化调节、帮助读者理解、提高译本可读性等方面起到了关键作用。金介甫在翻译《边城》时对副文本进行了较好的运用,使其在呈现《边城》的乡土风貌、乡民形象和乡土文化中发挥了独特的建设性作用。金介甫在运用副文本建构《边城》乡土中国的风味方面做出了可贵的探索,为目的语读者提供了解读《边城》乡土风味的路线图,为《边城》后续译本和中国文学外译提供了可资借鉴的范例。

As a representative work of rural literature,Border Town tells people about the marginal life and marginal culture of rural China.Although the academic research on the English translation of Border Town shows a multi-dimensional orientation,however,little attention has ever been given to the translation of its rural characteristics.As a link between the translated text and the readers,paratexts play a key role in providing background knowledge,cultural adjustment,thus helping readers understand,and improving the readability of the translated text.The successful use of paratexts by Jeffrey Kinkley in the translation of Border Town made it play a unique and constructive role in presenting the rural style,image and culture of Border Town.Jeffrey Kinkley has made a valuable exploration in the construction of rural Chinese flavor by using paratexts,which not only provides a road map for the target language readers to interpret the local flavor of Border Town,but also provides an example for the subsequent translation of Border Town and the foreign translation of Chinese literature.
