From March to May 2003,the Shandong Provincial Institute of Cultural Relics and Archaeology and the Xintai City Museum jointly excavated the Zhoujiazhuang Eastern Zhou Cemetery in Xintai City.Together with the three excavated in March 2002 and the eight excavated in 2004,a total of 77 graves were excavated, and more than 2,000 cultural relics were unearthed. The artifacts excavated from Zhoujiazhuang Eastern Zhou Cemetery have two outstanding features:first, the number of weapons among the buried artifacts is large, with preliminary statistics of more than 300 pieces, accounting for about half of the total number of bronze weapons;second, among the 300 pieces of weapons,a certain proportion of bronze weapons from Wu and Yue are excavated,a phenomenon rarely seen in the country at present, where large quantities of weapons are excavated outside Wu and Yue at one time.In 484 B.C.,the allied forces of Wu and Yue fought a famous battle against Qi at the foot of the Great Wall of Qi,which is known as the Battle of Ailing. The battle site is close to the Zhoujiazhuang cemetery(at the junction of Xintai and Laiwu),and the battle time is consistent with the relative age of the cultural relics excavated from the Zhoujiazhuang cemetery,so the two should have a close relationship.
