International Research Progress on Entrepreneurial City Theory

在全球化与后工业化背景下,城市面临衰退与经济停滞的局面,为摆脱原有的管理模式,实现城市复兴与经济增长,企业家型城市理论为城市发展提供了理论指导。本文通过对国外企业家型城市理论文献的系统梳理,解析了企业家型城市的概念内涵,总结了企业家型城市的发展战略要点,反思了当前企业家型城市发展中存在的问题。为我国新型城镇化和城市转型发展的理论解释和模式探索提供参考和依据。

Under the background of globalization and marketization,modern cities around the world are facing multiple challenges such as economic stagnation,urban decline,and urban diseases.The transformational urban development and sustainable urban development as a critical approach to address the challenges adopted by governments.Especially,China’s urban development is in a key transition period after the rapid urbanization,and face many problems,such as the risk of local government debt,weak economic growth momentum,and lagging social wellbeing.The exploration of guiding theory and development model is the critical topic of urban development in contemporary China.The entrepreneurial city theory provides an insightful theoretical framework for global urban development.Entrepreneurial City is a novel theory and development model originated in the urban development experience of developed countries.The entrepreneurial city theory emphasizes the active role of the government and the operation of the city as a market subject.The competitiveness of the city can be promoted and urban development can be achieved through a variety of marketing measures includes the cooperation between the government and entrepreneurs,the leading of big projects and events,and urban marketing.The entrepreneurial city theory has a good explanatory power and guidance effect,and has an important impact on the urban development of many western countries and regions.However,current studies in Chinese journals have paid little attention to the entrepreneurial city theory.To address this research gap,this study conducts a systematical literature review on international research progress on entrepreneurial city theory.The research design and process of this entrepreneurship,education triple helix,and creative industry cluster.Seventh,the entrepreneurial city theory also has some shortcomings and criticisms,such as the excessive intervention risk of the government in the economy and the simple and one-sided treatment of the complex urban system.At last,the entrepreneurial city theory originates from western practical experience and has the characteristics of Western centrism.The application in China needs to be closely tailored with Chinese characteristics and national conditions.The contributions of this study are manifold.First of all,systematic literature review in this study is helpful for Chinese scholars and planners to have a thorough understanding of the research progress of international entrepreneurial city theory.Secondly,the research trend and application scenarios of entrepreneurial city theory in China are put forward.Finally,this study is helpful to summarize China’s urban development experience based on entrepreneurial city theory,so as to better carry out academic dialogue with planning community in developed countries.
