The dawn of Industry 4.0 era has brought many new challenges and opportunities to the material handling system.Key technologies in Industry 4.0 era(such as Internet of Things,cloud computing,big data and artificial intelligence)have brought new ideas and methods for the design and optimization of the material handling system.In this paper,the concept of Industry 4.0 and its influence on material handling system are introduced,the design principles and methods of material handling system are described in detail,the application of key technologies in Industry 4.0 era in the material handling system optimization is analyzed,and the application results of these key technologies are discussed with specific cases.Finally,key factors and challenges in successful application are summarized,and the development trend of the material handling system in the future is predicted.
