读者反应理论视域下《浮躁》方言翻译探析

An Analysis of Dialect Translation in Turbulence from the Perspective of Reader-response Theory

贾平凹的《浮躁》中大量使用了富有地域特色的陕西方言,蕴含着浓郁的陕西地域文化。美国汉学家葛浩文的《浮躁》英译本Turbulence在国外大受好评,成功地把中国文学和中国文化推向海外。本研究主要运用了读者反应理论,通过对陕西高校外籍教师、外国留学生的访谈,了解他们对《浮躁》中陕西方言翻译的反应和接受程度,探讨葛浩文的翻译策略,并得出在翻译过程中要根据实际情况采取直译、意译、替代等多种翻译技巧和翻译策略,尤其在涉及文化因素时,应采取译文中加注释的形式详细介绍文化知识的结论,为进一步探索文学作品中陕西方言的翻译策略,为陕西文学更好地走出去提供一些借鉴作用。

A large number of Shaanxi dialects are used in Jia Pingwa’s novel Turbulence which contains rich Shaanxi regional culture.American translator Howard Goldblatt’s English version is well received abroad,which successfully promotes Chinese literature and culture going worldwide.Through the interview with foreign teachers and international students from different universities in Shaanxi province,this paper studies their responses to the translation of the Shaanxi dialects in Turbulence and explores the translation strategies of Howard Goldblatt under the guidance of the reader-response theory.A conclusion is drawn that different translation skills and strategies such as literal translation,free translation,replacement,etc.should be used according to actual situation,especially when it comes to culture,footnotes ought to be added to introduce the culture of the source language in details.This paper can offer some references for the further exploration of the translation strategy of Shaanxi dialects in literary works and the spread of the Shaanxi literature to foreign countries.
