Western Research on the Economic History of Ming and Qing Dynasties in the Past Two Decades:A Focus on the discussion of"the Great Divergence"

在中国经济快速增长和“大分流”学术讨论的背景下,从全球视野探寻当代中国经济奇迹的历史根源,成为西方学界的新潮流。部分学者改变明清中国经济长期停滞的观点,重新评估中国传统经济发展水平和发展趋势。但是西方学者并未完全放弃西方中心论立场。西方明清经济史研究旨趣的转变,与中国学者积极参与国际对话密不可分。我们要推出明清传统制度整体研究和传统经济发展道路的综合研究成果,为进一步深化中华优秀传统文化与当代中国经济发展内在联系的研究作出贡献。

Against the backdrop of China's rapid economic growth and the scholarly debate on the"Great Divergence",there has been a new trend in Western academia to explore the historical roots of China's contemporary economic miracle from a global perspective.Some scholars have revised their views on the long-term stagnation of China's economy during the Ming and Qing periods and reevaluated the developmental trajectory and levels of China's traditional economy.They have sought to establish links between China's traditional economic development path and the recent economic success.However,Western scholars have not completely abandoned their Western-centric standpoint.The transformation in Western research on the economic history of Ming and Qing dynasties has been closely intertwined with the active participation of Chinese scholars in international dialogues.Nonetheless,comprehensive studies on the overall traditional institutional framework and the path of economic development in the Ming and Qing periods should be pursued.They are essential to contribute to further research on the intrinsic connection between China's outstanding traditional culture and its contemporary economic development.
