否叔尊、卣“否叔献彝”解诂

Explanation of the Inscription“Pishu Offering Yi”of Pishu Zun and You

据铭文上下文记事逻辑并参照殷墟甲骨卜辞及战国楚简等相关出土文献,否叔尊、卣“否叔献彝”应理解为否叔制作彝器献祭于鬼神,以为其母禳除疾病;否叔献彝的对象系自然神或祖先神鬼,而非其母;及其母病甚而不治,否叔又为其制作随葬的遣器以记其事,此即此套器物制作及铭文记事之缘由。据器物种类、数量及组合等情况看,作器者否叔及其母应系身份等级很高的高级贵族。

According to the context and logic of the inscriptions,and referring to relevant unearthed literature such as oracle bone inscriptions from the Yin Ruins and the Bamboo slips of Chu in the Warring States period,the phrase“Pishu offering Yi”in the inscriptions of Pishu Zun and You should be interpreted as Pishu making bronzen sacrificial vessels to sacrifice to ghosts and gods,in order to ward off diseases for his mother.The objects of sacrificial vessels presented by Pishu are natural gods or ancestral gods and ghosts,rather than his mother.Even after his mother became seriously ill and passed away,Pishu made a set of burial artifact for his mother to record the events.This is the origin of the set of artifacts and inscriptions.Based on the type,quantity,and combination of the artifacts,the creator,Pishu,and his mother,should be high-ranking aristocrats.
