Ling Tingkan’s Yan Music Kao Yuan goes a step further on the basis of Fang Chengpei’s Xiang Yanju Ci Zhu,pioneering the way for a systematic study of the Yan music system.Ling Tingkan determined the key value of the“horn tune”in Yan music,which really solved the biggest problem of Yan music theory.Meanwhile,he examined in detail the subordination of many words and tones to the palace tune,promoting the study of Yan music into a special study,which is of immense merit.
