Were it not for a"hermit"in the Chinese context, how does the joy of the countryside arise?Starting from the rereading of a French 18th-century novel of gallantry, this paper develops an analysis with interpretations of the successive writings of architects, philosophers, and"decorator of gardens"in the Age of Enlightenment,to reveal the remarkable intersection of French architecture and landscape gardening as a result of the rise of new aesthetic fashions and behaviors, which formed a prototype of the modern suburban house:the"little house".
