以英国汉学家理雅各的《论语》英译本为中心,梳理了译者通过其翻译活动阐释中国核心的哲学思想。理雅各的翻译活动推动了中西交流过程中的相互包容与融合。他的译本也成为19世纪中西对话的重要媒介,为西方社会理性、客观、科学地看待中国哲学、中国思想,和中国文化架通了桥梁。通过研究《论语》英译有助于中国文化典籍的传播,服务于中国文化走出去,提升中国话语竞争力,反推西方汉学界对中华文明的认同态度,寻求中外译者的协同交流。

Focusing on the English translation of Confucian Analects by English sinologist James Legge,this paper combs the translator’s interpretation of the core Chinese philosophy through his translation activities.James Legge’s translation activities have promoted mutual tolerance and integration in the process of communication between China and the West.His translation has also became an important medium for the dialogue between China and the West in the 19th century,bridging the gap between the Western society’s rational,objective and scientific view of Chinese philosophy,Chinese thought and Chinese culture.By studying the English translation of Confucian Analects,it helps to spread Chinese cultural classics,serve the internationalization of Chinese culture,enhance the competitiveness of Chinese discourse,reverse the recognition attitude of Western sinology towards Chinese civilization,and seek collaborative communication between Chinese and foreign translators.
