The Taosi North Cemetery is located in Taosi Village, northeast of Xiangfen County,Shanxi Province. From 2016 to 2017,the Shanxi Provincial Institute of Archeology and others excavated the cemetery and cleared six tombs belonging to the Spring and Autumn period.Although disturbed,M3011 is still a large-scale tomb with abundant artifacts of bronzes, jades, bone wares, and many decayed lacquerwares that cannot be collected.Bronzes are particularly exquisite, including two sets of dingtripods, three huo ding-tripods,a set of 16 yong zhong-bells,a set of 13 bo zhong-bells,and a drum stand.Inscriptions found on yong zhong-bells indicating they belonged to the state of Wei(卫),as they were unearthed on the territory of the state of Jin(晋),which verified the alliance between Jin and Wei as recorded in historical documents.Besides, the drum stand is the largest ever found in archaeological excavations.Given the tomb structure and unearthed artifacts, the tomb occupant at least held a noble rank of dafu("grand master").The excavation is significant for further recognizing political changes during the Spring and Autumn period.
