施廷镛先生对中国图书馆事业的贡献

Shi Tingyong's Contribution to Chinese Librarianship

施廷镛先生是我国著名的图书馆学家、文献学家。先生以东南大学为始,先后辗转于故宫博物院、清华大学、燕京大学、中央大学、南京大学等院校,一生大部分时间都在高校图书馆工作。民国初期图书分类法百家争鸣、百花齐放的时代,他创编出著名的“八大类法”。从事图书馆工作的六十余年里,他编制资料目录,对丛书颇有研究,不遗余力地培养年轻新一代,以实践为我国图书馆事业和保护祖国遗产贡献自己的毕生精力,直至90岁逝世。他杰出的学术成就和人格操守,也留给后辈学人见贤思齐的追求与向往。

Shi Tingyong is a famous library scholar and documentalist in China.Starting from Southeast University,he had worked at the Palace Museum,Tsinghua University,Yenching University,and Nanjing University(formerly National Central University).He spent most of his life working in libraries of various universities.In the early Republic of China,during the era of a hundred schools of thought were contending and a hundred flowers were blooming for libraries classification schemes,he created the famous“Eight Categories Classification Scheme for Libraries”.During his over sixty years of professional career in the library,he compiled book lists and conducted extensive research on series books,using all his energy to cultivate a new generation of young people.He devoted his lifelong energy to the Chinese librarianship and the protection of the Chinese heritage through practice,until his death at the age of ninety.His outstanding academic achievements and personality integrity have also left the pursuit and yearning of later generations of scholars.
