How Does Foreign Direct Investment Affect Carbon Productivity?

在“双碳”政策背景下,提升碳生产率是当前中国亟待解决的重要问题。论文首先从理论上分析了外商直接投资(FDI)对碳生产率的影响机理,随后基于2004—2019年的省际数据,运用ArcGIS可视化分析了FDI和碳生产率的时空特征,并采用中介模型与门限模型考察了FDI对碳生产率的影响。研究发现:第一,FDI和碳生产率在空间分布上存在明显的区域失衡问题。第二,FDI显著促进了碳生产率提升,且通过增强自主研发强度间接促进碳生产率提升。第三,FDI与碳生产率存在非线性关系。随着外资规模的扩大,FDI对碳生产率的促进作用增强;随着绿色技术创新水平、环境规制强度的上升,FDI对碳生产率的促进作用减弱。第四,FDI显著促进了东部、西部地区碳生产率提高,而抑制了中部地区碳生产率提高。基于此,提出了相应的政策建议。

Under the background of"dual carbon"'policy,improving carbon productivity is an important issue to be solved urgently in China.Firstly this paper theoretically analyzes the impact mechanism of FDI on carbon productivity,and then visualizes the spatial-temporal characteristics of FDI and carbon productivity using ArcGIS based on China's provincial data from 2004 to 2019,and investigates the impact of FDI on carbon productivity by using mediation model and threshold model.The findings are as follows:firstly,there are obvious regional imbalances in the spatial distribution of FDI and carbon productivity.Secondly,FDI significantly promoted carbon productivity,and indirectly promoted carbon productivity by enhancing the intensity of independent research and development.Thirdly,there is a non-linear relationship between FDI and carbon productivity.With the expansion of foreign investment,FDI has a stronger role in promoting carbon productivity,while with the increase of green technology innovation level and environmental regulation intensity,FDI has a weaker role in promoting carbon productivity.Fourthly,FDI significantly promoted the increase of carbon productivity in the eastern and western regions,but inhibited the increase of carbon productivity in the central region.Based on this,this paper puts forward the corresponding policy suggestions.
