The Functioning of the Confucius Institute in the Construction of Overseas Chinese Linguistic Landscapes

随着中国与世界各国交流和联系的日益加深,以汉字作为典型表征的中文符号越来越多地出现在世界各地的语言景观中。文章旨在通过对语言景观的相关研究进行梳理,进而探讨海外中文语言景观的多重价值。同时提出在海外中文语言景观构建视阈下孔子学院发挥的3种主要功能:实践主体、形象顾问和理想智库。

With further exchanges and communications between China and other countries in the world,Chinese characters,as typical symbols of the Chinese language,are increasingly appearingin the linguistic landscapes all over the world.This paperaims at reviewing the relevant studies on linguistic landscapesand then explores the multifaceted value of overseas Chinese linguistic landscapes.It also points out three main functions that the Confucius Institute can play in the context of constructing overseas Chinese linguistic landscapes,that is,the Confucius Institute as a practical entity,an image consultant,and an ideal think tank.
