The French Jesuit Alexandre de La Charme was a Sinologist who mastered both sciences and arts.Through his forty years in China,he worked as an astronomer,an accountant,a diplomat,a lexicographer,a translator and a writer,contributing greatly to the Chinese-western transcultural communication.His Latin version of Shi Jing,Confucii Chi-King sive Liber Carminum,is the first complete translation of Shi Jing in the west.It has an epoch-making influence in the western journey of Shi Jing.The adequate structure,the clear classification,the accurate translation and the unique interpretation makes Confucii Chi-King sive Liber Carminum a work which deserves deeper study.
