“中世纪主义”是后中世纪时代对中世纪进行的具有想象力的塑造或重塑。它研究的是后中世纪时代文化里对欧洲中世纪的接受、阐释和重塑,关注的是创造中世纪的过程。中世纪主义自中世纪至当代一直存在,在历史上曾深刻影响不同文化领域。人们用中世纪主义来表达怀旧情感,也用它来应对和观照自己所处的政治和社会情境。中世纪主义研究有别于中世纪研究,但发展至今,两者的界限开始模糊。中世纪主义研究具有文化研究的特点,它的发展可借鉴文化研究的方法路径。

Medievalism is the imaginative creation or re-creation of the Middle Ages in the post-medieval era.It studies the reception,interpretation and re-creation of the European Middle Ages in post-medieval cultures,focusing on the process of constructing the Middle Ages.Medievalism has existed since the Middle Ages to the present day,and has been a profound influence in different cultural fields in history.It has been used to express nostalgia,and also to respond to and reflect on political and social situations.Medievalism study is usually distinguished from medieval study,but the distinction between the two has begun to blur.Medievalism study share characteristics with cultural studies,and its development can learn from the methodologies of cultural studies.
