Peace and Prosperity:The Political Appeal of the Qing Dynasty's Official Bixia Yuanjun Beliefs

国泰民安,是清帝治理“大一统”国家的政治目标,也是其崇奉碧霞元君的内在动力。康熙帝、雍正帝与乾隆帝连续提倡碧霞元君信仰,实施“神道设教”方略,在一定程度上弥补儒家礼教的局限。清廷借助碧霞元君信仰,多次进行求子与禳灾活动,进而展示清帝统治的权威性。由于清廷的大力提倡,民间碧霞元君信仰习俗更加兴盛,促进了当时社会秩序的和谐与稳定。

Peace and prosperity was the political goal of the Qing Emperor in governing the"great unification"country,and it was also the internal driving force for his worship of Bixia Yuanjun.The Kangxi Emperor,the Yongzheng Emperor and the Qianlong Emperor successively advocated the belief of Bixia Yuanjun and implemented the strategy of"Shinto Religion,"which to a certain extent made up for the limitations of Confucian rites and religions.With the help of Bixia Yuanjun's beliefs,the Qing court repeatedly carried out activities to seek sons and pray for disasters,thereby demonstrating the authority of the Qing emperor's rule.Due to the vigorous promotion of the Qing court,the folk Bixia Yuanjun belief and customs became more prosperous,which promoted the harmony and stability of the social order at that time.
