As the father of modern economics,Adam Smith's ideas are timeless.Adam Smith mentioned China many times in An Inquiry into the Nature and Causes of the Wealth of Nations,constructing an image of traditional China as both"wealthy"and"stagnant",while also discussing unique perspectives on developing economy.Starting from the discussions about China in An In-quiry into the Nature and Causes of the Wealth of Nations,this study compares the similarities and differences between the image of China it presents and the actual situation,and explores the important influence of the cognitive sources,social background,and e-conomic viewpoints of these discussions on Adam Smith's construction of China's image.Studying Adam Smith's relevant discus-sions and insights also provides inspiration for deepening reform and opening up in contemporary China.
