文章从亲炙叶企孙先生的恩惠说起,阐发了他的办学理念和做法,叙述了他的家国情怀与高尚品德,说明他以“科学救国”与“教育救国”为主旨,奋不顾身地与学生一起为挽救民族进行的可歌可泣的伟大斗争。他知人善任,发展了国家急需的尖端科学技术,为新中国的“两弹一星”事业奠定了人力资源基础。最后阐释了一流大学的使命,是当下建设世界一流大学的楷模。一流大学不是“办”出来的,而是在一批像叶先生这样的大师们熏陶与感染出来的环境与氛围中砥砺奋进建成的。

Beginning from my personal contacts and favors with Professor Ye Qisun this paper describes his main ideas and methods, and describes the glorious deed of his deep feelings of country and noble character and explaining his brave struggle with his students for saving the nation for realizing his ideal of"saving coun⁃try through sciences"and"saving country through education".He knew how to judge and use people appropri⁃ately.By developing the pioneering sciences and technologies he established the human resources basis for New China's national defense industry.Finally, this paper explains the mission of the world-class university, and Professor Ye still was the model of the world-class university nowadays.The world-class university was not"made"up, but is constructed through the environment and atmosphere created by professor Ye and his colleagues.
