The creation of new literature in Hong Kong in the 1930s is centred around the Island Society but apart from it there were also passionate creators of new literature, represented bythe colleagues of the two magazines,New Life and Morning Light. In view of their motivation, the two magazines were strongly tinged with the Enlightenment while they expressed the common wish of the creators of new literature in Hong Kong to strive for a living on the impoverished soil.If understood from the viewpoint of new literature on the mainland, they had a rough understanding of the veins of new literature on the mainland but they were prejudiced towards writers or literary societies in their understanding. In terms of magazine contents, they were more identified with the creative concepts of Creation Society in its later stage and, with regard to either essays or fiction, they were inclined towards paying attention to the concrete life issues. In general,in the only existent issue of either magazine, the level of literary creation isn't high. But the efforts made and courage shown can be seen in the creation of new literature by a number of writers in the then harsh conditions.
