多模态视域下《庄子》英译研究

Translation of Zhuangzi from a Multimodal Perspective

作为道家文化精华,《庄子》英译对传播中华文化具有重要意义。英文版蔡志忠漫画《庄子说》在海外的畅销为中华典籍对外传播提供了崭新的路径。学界对《庄子》的英译研究多以语言模态为主,而对其他模态构建英语语篇的研究尚不够充分。以英文版蔡志忠漫画为研究对象,基于多模态视角,结合文字和图像模态及图文关系探讨该译本的翻译策略,旨在分析该译本的成功之处,以期为其他中华典籍的译介提供借鉴,促进中华典籍的有效传播。

As the essence of“Tao”culture,the translation of Zhuangzi is of great signifi cance for spreading Chinese culture.The popularity of English version of Cai Zhizhong’s cartoon Zhuangzi Speaks abroad can provide a multimodal perspective for international communication of Chinese classics.Foreign translation studies of“Zhuangzi”mainly focus on its linguistic modes,but there are few studies on the meaning construction of the translation by other modes.Therefore,from the multimodal perspective,this paper,taking the English version of Zhuangzi Speaks by as the research object,analyzes its translation strategy from linguistic and visual modes,discusses the success of this cartoon translation,hoping to provide reference and promoting the eff ective dissemination of other Chinese classics.
