In 2017,Japanese-British novelist Kazuo Ishiguro won the Nobel Prize in Literature, making his works spark a reading flurry all over the world. His unique dual cultural identity makes his works transcend national boundaries and express the difficult situation and survival dilemma of human beings in the process of civilization. Two of his early novels,A Pale View of Hills and An Artist of the Floating World, which are set in Japan, are the prototypes of this writing style.Through shaping the picture of Japan, which is different from that described by native Japanese writers, these two works reflect the values and cultural standpoints formed by the integration of his Japanese memory and British culture. Thus, these two works is of great significance for understanding his unique dual cultural identity and the theme of his works.
