The Condition of the Working Class in England is an early work of Engels,which is of great significance to Engels’s establishment of a materialist view of history.This book discusses how the capitalist industrial city was formed,and contains a rich idea of urban space.As a product of the Industrial Revolution,the capitalist industrial city is both the place where capital operates and the capitalist relations of production.Taking the proletarian position as the starting point,Engels reveals the unjust phenomena such as the oppression of workers’production space under the capitalist mode of production,the deterioration of the ecological environment of urban space,and the duality of urban and rural space,and confirms the possibility of proletarian liberation.The development of capitalist industrial urban space has increasingly become a place of class contradictions,and the agglomeration effect of its space has promoted the unity and awakening of the proletariat,and urban space has become the birthplace of the revolutionary movement of the working class.
