From STEM to STEAM:The Brain Science Foundation and Its Educational Implications

摘要 在早期的STEM教育中融进艺术类学科就是在全球课程变革中被寄予厚望的STEAM教育。早期的STEM教育虽然符合巴甫洛夫高级神经类型学说,但是基于现代脑科学的分析发现,STEAM比STEM更有利于培养学生创新思维并促进学生全面和谐发展。“左右脑分工理论”认为,左脑是抽象脑和学术脑,右脑是艺术脑和创造脑,两半球在分工的基础上相互协作。增加艺术人文等学科可以有效开发学生右脑潜能并提升学生创造力。从重视左脑的STEM进化为注重全脑学习的STEAM是全球教育界的进步,这一转向提醒我们在教学中必须注重左右脑的共同开发,其教育启示体现在教育目标、教育结构、课程结构、教育方式以及教育评价观等环节。 The integration of art disciplines into the early STEM education is STEAM education which is highly expected in the global curriculum reform.Although the early STEM education conforms to Pavlov's advanced neurotype theory,but STEAM is better than STEM to cultivate students'innovative thinking and promote their comprehensive and harmonious development according to modern brain science research.Sperry's"Left and Right Brain Division Theory"emphasizes not only the division of labor of the two hemispheres of the brain,but also their coordination.STEM education mainly relies on the left brain,while arts and humanities education mainly relies on the right brain.Arts and humanities education is helpful to unleash the potential of students'right brain and can improve their creativity.The transformation from STEM with its priority over left brain to STEAM with its priority over the two hemispheres means a progress in education globally,which enlightens us the coordination of left and right brains in teaching.Its educational implications are demonstrated in educational objectives,educational structure,curriculum structure,educational approaches and educational evaluation.
