Summary What is already known about this topic?The Shanxi Province,located in northern China,holds the highest prevalence of birth defects(BDs)across the country.Following the implementation of a nationwide folic acid supplementation program in 2009,a significant reduction of 53.89%in the prevalence of neural tube defects(NTDs)was observed in Shanxi from 2012 to 2017.
