Wu Juenong’s Writing Process for The Origin of Tea Tree

20世纪初,自印度发现野生茶树后,部分外国学者无视中国茶文化历史,错误地主张“茶树原产于印度”,由此掀起“茶树起源”之争。吴觉农发表《茶树原产地考》一文予以回应,从历史学与植物学多方论证,深刻剖析华茶衰退之根源,得出“茶非印度的原产,而为中国所固有”的正确论断,并提出了振兴华茶的根本方策,以期重塑近代茶业。

At the beginning of the 20th century,after the discovery of the wild tea tree in India,some foreign scholars ignored the history of Chinese tea culture and wrongly claimed that the tea tree originated in India,causing the controversy over the origin of the tea tree.Wu Juenong published The Origin of the Tea Tree to respond to the question.From the history and botany,he profoundly analyzed of the root of the decline of Chinese tea,and came up with the conclusion that tea did not originate in India,but was inherent in China,and he put forward the policy of revitalizing Chinese tea,with a view to reshaping the modern tea industry.
