从相知到相离:傅斯年与岑仲勉关系考论

From Acquaintance to Separation:On the Relationship between Fu Sinian and Cen Zhongmian

傅斯年与岑仲勉是中国现代学术谱系中两位具有重要影响的史学家,两人之关系经历了从相知到相离的过程。岑仲勉早年侧重中外史地研究,志在与国外汉学家交流与竞胜,这种“预流”的学问暗合了傅斯年与域外汉学角逐的理念,于是也成为他进入史语所的入场券。岑仲勉与傅斯年的分道扬镳,表面看来缘于岑氏在史语所中“逾越”中古史而从事上古史与语言学研究,超出了工作范围,实则折射出以傅、岑为代表的现代史家对于采取何种路径建构自身话语体系和推动史学专业化的认知分歧。

Fu Sinian and Cen Zhongmian were both significant historians with great influence in modern Chinese academic history,and they experienced acquaintanceship and departure of each other.Cen Zhongmian focused on the study of Chinese and foreign history and geography in his early years,aiming to communicate and compete with foreign sinologists,and Cen's interests agreed with Fu Sinian's idea of competing with foreign sinologists,which allowed him to enter the Institute of History and Philology.Cen Zhongmian and Fu Sinian's separation,was superficially because that Cen went beyond the study of medieval Chinese history and engaged in study of ancient Chinese history and linguistics in the Institute of History and Philology,which was beyond his research fields,but in fact this division reflects the cognitive differences among modern historians,represented by Fu and Cen,on the path to construct their own discourse system and promote the professionalization of historiography.
