Dubliners(1914)is a collection of short stories written by James Joyce(1882-1941)in the early 20th century and has always attracted the attention of domestic scholars. However, the Boarding House has not been given enough attention like other works of Dubliners, making implications behind this short story ignored. Therefore, taking the Boarding House, the seventh one of Dubliners,as the analytical object, this paper attempts to deeply analyze images of Mrs.Mooney disciplined by Dublin’s different power discourses.Additionally,it will also interpret how Mrs.Mooney used them to discipline and punish other Dubliners.Ultimately, with Mrs.Mooney as the epitome of Dublin, the dead atmosphere, unrelenting sarcasm and worry hidden behind this story by James Joyce will be revealed.
