In darkness,plants undergo skotomorphogenesis,which is characterized by long hypocotyls and closed cotyledons.In contrast,light,such as far-red light,red light,and blue light,inhibits hypocotyl elongation.Plants sense different wavelengths of light through different photoreceptors:phytochromes perceive red/far-red light(600–750 nm)。
