Since the beginning of the new century,the contemporary Japanese female writer Murata Kiyoko has written a large number of novels about old age.Her award-winning novel Sister's Island takes the Goto Islands as the stage,describing the story of the old ama divers who trace the historical truth and reshape the historical memory in the deep sea exploration.The novel presents the historical memory of peace and war with the spatial transformation between over-sea world and under-sea world.Through the career change of Japan's ama divers,the novel reveals the current situation of the decline of contemporary ama diver culture,which metaphorically reveals the crisis of the inheritance of the traditional culture and war lessons.The novel also implies that the culture of war in Japan is in danger of resurgence with the change of the image of Japanese emperor.In the context of the intensification of right-wing nationalism in Japan,the combination of historical memory,the destruction of traditional culture and the“resurgence”of the culture of war lead to multiple crises,and the historical and cultural metaphors of the sea in the novel highlight the value dimensions in criticism of war,reflections on history and crisis warning.
