The Battle of Wei River was one of the few battles in Chinese history that settled a major national crisis by peace talks when the army had arrived in the suburb of capital.The contradiction between the development and military expansion of Turkic peoples and the pursuit of development and stability for the realization of the goal of national reunification in the early Tang Dynasty is the root cause of the contradiction and the outbreak of war between the two countries.After Turkic peoples occupied the military stronghold of Wuyuan county,the southern invasion of Tang was accelerated.In response to this massive national war,Tang Dynasty strengthened its border defensive power,intensified its offense against the northern part of the inner pass,seized the political contradictions within Turkic peoples to alleviate the national crisis by means of sowing discord within enemy camp or making allies.Afer the outbreak of the war,the military intelligence of Turkic peoples was accurately grasped,the military deployment was quickly made to divide Turkic peoples'internal forces,and Turkic peoples were forced to relieve the conflict between the two countries by means of negotiation and alliance under the state deterrent force.This fully reflects the quick response and wise strategy of Tang Dynasty in dealing with the national crisis,and this historic war also provides significant historical reflection on the contemporary international relations and the handling of national crises.
