历史上的管涔山以其丰富的水草和高寒的气候成为宜牧地区。从先秦开始,有关记载便出现在各种史料当中。到了唐朝,三处监牧的设置更使得此地成为受人注目的区域。就是安禄山和李克用,也都垂涎于该地的监牧。马匹在农耕民族中的使用,既改变着生产力,也改变着人们的心理,同时也产生了马文化。而这种马文化,在唐代尤其突出。如今宁武县境内很多带“马”字的乡村和民俗中对马的重视,均显示着当年牧马业的辉煌。

Historically,Guancen Mountain became a suitable grazing area for its abundant water and grass and its alpine climate.Since the pre-Qin period,relevant records have appeared in various historical data.In the Tang Dynasty,the establishment of prefect apostolic has made this place more attractive so that even AnLushan and Li Keyong coveted the prefect place.The use of horses in farming not only changed productivity there,but also changed people's psychology which had an effect on horse cluture at the same time.And this kind of horse culture was especially prominent in the Tang Dynasty.Nowadays,the name of many villages comprises the word"horse"in Ningwu County and the emphasis on horses in folk customs shows the glory of the horse breeding industry in those days.
