The Framework of“Cognitive-Functional”Multimodal Critical Discourse Analysis

批评话语分析的多模态发展态势促使“多模态批评话语分析”成为新兴的研究领域。基于认知语言学和功能语言学在多模态批评话语分析领域的合作对话基础,构建一个由三个系统(语言符号系统、非语言符号系统以及图文互动系统)、两种研究路径(认知语言学和功能语言学)及其次级理论综合交织构成的“认知—功能”多模态批评话语分析框架,并以2021年《经济学人》涉华封面多模态语篇为分析语料,证实功能语言学和认知语言学同频共振揭示语篇背后隐匿的权力关系和意识形态意义的可行性和有效性,为多模态批评话语分析提供系统的方法论指导。

With the development of information technology in the new media era,Multimodal Critical Discourse Analysis(MCDA)which integrates Critical Discourse Analysis(CDA)and Multimodal Discourse Analysis(MDA)has become an emerging research area.As instrumental linguistics,the development of MCDA is based on a framework that can be applied to analyze and deconstruct ideological meaning carried by all kinds of symbols.By exploring the dialogue basis of the integration of Cognitive Linguistics(CL)and Systemic-Functional Linguistics(SFL)in MCDA and cooperating with existing related achievements,this research tries to establish a framework of integrated and intertwined“Cognitive-Functional”MCDA which consists of three dimensions(linguistic symbol system,non-verbal symbol system,and the linguistic-graphic system),two research paths(SFL and CL)and their sub-theories.By taking 7 Chinese-related Multimodal Discourses in 2021 the economist as the sample,the feasibility and validity of the integration of SFL and CL in MCDA to reveal the hidden power relations and ideological meaning behind the discourses as well as the effectiveness of the framework have been proven.Therefore,this framework is justified to provide systematic and methodological guidance for MCDA.
