Discussion on the Calculation of Allowable External Load on the Wall Opening of Vertical Cylindrical Storage Tank in Domestic and International Standard

For the calculation of allowable external loads on the wall openings of vertical cylindrical storage tanks,two standards are involved,namely API 650—2018“Welded Tanks for Oil Storage”and GB 50341—2014“Design Code for Vertical Cylindrical Steel Welded Oil Tanks”.Comparative analysis of the similarities and differences between two standards in terms of scope of application,calculation methods,work scope for manufacturers and purchasers,calculation examples,finite element method descriptions,reinforcement types,and relevant numerical sources was carried out,and it can provide references for the accurate application of the standards.
