Four Newly Discovered Wang Shizhen’s Essays on the Imperial Examination and Their Value

新发现王世贞科举之作四篇,均不见于其现存的《弇州山人四部稿》《弇州山人续稿》等文集,且在现有文集中,也没有“科举”一体。虽然他的科举之作不多,体量偏小,但却是其文集的重要组成部分,不可或缺。对这些科举之作的分析,有助于进一步探究王世贞的科举观念及创作特色,进而更加全面地把握其转益多师、善于持论等文学观念,揭示其早年文学观念与中晚年的逻辑联系。新文体的发现,也有助于丰富王世贞文学创作的内涵。

The four newly discovered essays on the imperial examination by Wang Shizhen are not found in his existing collections such as Yanzhou Shanren Sibugao and Yanzhou Shanren Xugao,and they are not grouped under the category of“imperial examination”in his existing collections.Although his works related to the imperial examination are relatively small in volume,they are nonetheless essential components of his collected works.Analyzing these works on the imperial examination can help us further explore Wang Shizhen’s views on the imperial examination and his unique writing style.It also allows for a more comprehensive understanding of his literary concepts,such as his openness to learning from various sources and his skill in argumentation,and contributes to reveal the logical connection between his early and later literary concepts.This discovery of new literary material also contributes to enriching the content of Wang Shizhen’s literary creation.
