Type 2 diabetes and cognitive dysfunction are complex and pervasive disorders. There is evidence that cognitive impairment is a possible endophenotype of type 2 diabetes, especially in older populations, where there is a significant genetic correlation between type 2 diabetes and attention, working memory, and face memory, suggesting genetic overlap between type 2 diabetes and these cognitive domains. Clinical guidelines also emphasize the importance of mild cognitive impairment in the management of older patients with type 2 diabetes. In the era of personalized medicine, genomics can provide effective method for research and treatment of diseases, especially in terms of optimal efficacy and reduce adverse reaction, this article mainly around the APOE and SLCO1B1 polymorphism in elderly type 2 diabetes to discuss the influence of cognitive dysfunction, and the future research direction in the field are discussed in this paper.
