Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine in Private Medicine—Centered Around Zhang Gang’s Diary

张棡系生活在晚清民国时期的地方乡绅,他在日记中留下了大量关于疾病及诊治的记载。从微观角度我们可以发现,作为传统乡绅的张棡虽然广泛接触“新学新知”,但他对疾病的认知仍停留在传统医学体系内。在疾病应对方面,由于医疗活动中的权力之争、人际关系网络的建构、对传统价值观的坚守等因素影响,在中西医之间,张棡秉持着“中医为体,西医为用”的理念,明显更偏向于中医。以乡绅张棡为个例的探讨,对研究转型时期的医疗社会生活具有一定的参考意义。

Zhang Gang was a local gentry living in the late Qing and Republic of China period.He left a large number of records in his diary about diseases and their diagnosis and treatment.From a microscopic perspective,we can observe that,as a traditional gentry,although Zhang Gang was widely exposed to new knowledge,his cognition of disease still stayed in the system of traditional medicine.In terms of disease response,due to factors such as the power struggle in medical activities,the construction of interpersonal relationship networks and adherence to traditional values,between Chinese and Western medicine,Zhang Gang upheld the concept of traditional Chinese medicine as the body,western medicine for use,clearly more inclined towards traditional Chinese medicine.Exploring the case of rural gentleman Zhang Gang,it has certain reference significance for studying the medical and social life during the transformation period.
