On the Evolution of the Olet Battalion in Ili in Qing Dynasty

清朝统一新疆后,为了加强西北地区防务,建立起了完备的防务体系。伊犁厄鲁特营作为新疆驻防八旗的重要组成部分。厄鲁特营的组建始于乾隆二十五年(1760年),止于乾隆三十六年(1771年),在长达11年的时间里,伊犁厄鲁特营创建牛录、编设昂吉、最后分设左右翼昂吉、建立八旗制度,并在此过程中三次更换关防图记,才逐步发展成形。

After the unification of Xinjiang,Qing Court made up a defense system to strengthen northwest defense.The Olet Battalion in Ili was a component of the Xinjiang Garrison Eight Banners.The establishment of the Olet Battalion began in the 25th year of the Qianlong reign(1760)and finished in the 36th year of the Qianlong reign(1771).Over a period of eleven years,the Olet Battalion in Ili established the organization of Niru(or Sum),composed the Anggi,finally divided the left and right wings of the Anggi,and in the end established the Eight Banners system.During this process,it gradually developed and took shape,changing its emblem three times.
